Before the detour
Before I earned a slightly notorious reputation for buying one-way tickets, life looked very different. After over 20 years in Saudi Arabia and 2 years in the UK, I moved back to India in 2012 and worked my way through many identities; teacher, photographer, and eventually into the world of Animation and VFX. I landed at my dream company, DreamWorks Animation, and later grew into a VFX Producer at The Mill, creating work for brands like Ralph Lauren, Nike, Paramount+, Spotify, Samsung, and more.
It was fast-paced, challenging, and deeply fulfilling.
And yet, somewhere between spreadsheets and late-night meetings, I caught myself either daydreaming about maps or memorising country names. Even with a full-time job, I chased adventure on vacation days. Skydiving in Dubai, scuba diving in the Andamans, riding to monasteries in Ladakh, hiking the Great Wall of China, even road-tripping across the US with my dad.
Still, it always felt like a preview, never the full picture.
The Leap
In 2021, after a lot of introspection (and a mild existential meltdown), I resigned from a job I loved and set off on what I thought would be a one-month trip. That month became five months of solo backpacking, a full-blown career break, and eventually, a leap into the unpredictable life of a digital nomad.
Why this Blog exists
Somewhere between overpacking, episodes of sea sickness, conversations with strangers, and feeling lost more often than I’d like to admit, each journey nudged me out of my comfort zone and into growth.
This space was born from those moments. It isn’t about counting countries or ticking boxes.
It’s a collection of raw reflections, honest stories, small inner revolutions, and the lessons that remind me we’re not defined by our fears or self-limiting beliefs, but by our willingness to navigate the unexpected.
